THE QUESTIONS

The oxymoron of human mind and nature is what I have been playing with.

The questions of what is natural? What is creation or is the human itself unnatural? Boundaries between (un)naturalness should be doubted and abolished through commonality in aesthetics and underlying patterns as well as the laws of nature.

I like to look at the regularities in nature as a parallel to how human minds work and also because the mind is fascinated by it. Hundreds of years ago humans asked about the same planets in the sky and the same process of death and rebirth in plants, animals and mushrooms as we do know. Nature will follow the same laws in hundreds of years.

But what if the human mind is just a part of the processes of nature? We see ourselves as a separation and meta-reflection of nature itself, but through my art I would like to remind us of our affiliation and belonging with the rest of the world.

Our commonality is something which art gives us possibility to be reminded of - which is not only important for our individual well being, but also a drive for social change.

I have been working with digital visuals intending to bring patterns of nature into the digital realm and providing an opportunity to discover new aesthetic forms in generative art. This follows rules that may not necessarily be comprehensible, and this arbitrariness, which nevertheless is based on underlying stable and invisible principles, is thus a well-suited reflection of nature´s stability.

I am also interested in making visible the structures and dependencies behind machine learning and AI. Since my academic background is in machine learning and computational neuroscience but I am also interested in how society shapes the way AI learns as well as how AI shapes society this is something I am now shifting my focus on.
I want to question the differentiation between human and artifical intelligence. We tend to forget that cognitive science can explain many mental process of humans through similar - but more complex - reinforcement models as used for AI.
Is our experience of the uniquness of humanness emergent from our brain networks? When does a neural network have emergent consciousness?
How can interaction with digital and intelligent systems change our perception of them?

SCIENCE

Most of my work during my studies has been in scientifically, especially focusing on topics in the philosophy of mind,
trying to understand consciousness, as well as philosophy of psychiatry.
In cognitive science I have focused on machine learning and computational neuroscience and psychiatry.
