when does this nature turn artifical?
we like to refer to human-made as unnatural - machines were and are unnatural, digitalization is unnatural, it is unnatural to fly to the moon and dive to the ground of the ocean, it is unnatural to create AI, the world is becoming more and more unnatural. Why do we consider that to be the case?
I find lots of things unnatural, but I tend to look at my body and the existence of a blue planet as such - I cannot grasp some uneveness in the structure of the univerise led to consciousness, it seems unnatural to me. But therefore I consider all things some degree of unnatural - either this or everything is natural. Why wouldn´t a space ship and AI be natural if it came from a - what we consider natural - human.
We experimented with bioplastic material as well as mushrooms to contrast "real" material with virtual simulations of lifeforms as well as AI interpretations.
I find the concept of symbioses in the mushroom, plant and animal world fascinating and created a video essay on its societal relevance relating to individualism and neoliberalism.
I intend to continue working with mushroom material and symbiosis.
